Meet the Committee
President – Trevor Ireland
My passion for scooters started back in the UK in 1982 at just 16 when I purchased my first Vespa PK 50 then a Vespa 200 after passing my test.
From then on I made time and effort to attend as many rallies as I could , along the way I chose to swap from Vespa to Lambretta series 3 .
Attending the UK rallies gave me much joy and excitement in my youthful years but the passion, camaraderie within the scootering scene at present in Australia still brings elation as it did back then.
My home is now Western Australia since 2012 when I decided I wanted part of the scootering scene again when purchased a 1960 series 2 where I fully restored it back to its full glory, along with a gp 150 which are my pride and joy. My total goal would be to own a SX200 1966.
Having joined the LCOA in 2019 and was made welcome on my first event, I felt compelled to become involved with LCOA and thank everyone who supported me in becoming a Committee Member and hopefully I can bring new ideas and support to the LCOA going forward.
Secretary – Rebecca Miller
Born and bred in Australia, I bought my first scooter at 19—a 1962 Vespa VBB 125. It felt like destiny, really. One of my earliest memories is of my dad’s Lambretta parked just outside my bedroom window, sparking a lifelong fascination with classic scooters.
These days, I ride a 1962 Douglas Sportique 150. While I’ve never personally owned a Lambretta, I love that LCOA sponsors and supports events that include all makes and models of classic scooters. That inclusive spirit is one of the reasons I’ve been a member of the club for the past six years.
So, when I was asked (or was it ambushed at the AGM….) to volunteer as Secretary, how could I possibly say no? I get to work alongside a bunch of like-minded, scooter-loving idiots—and I mean that in the best way possible.
It’s an incredible community, and I consider it a real privilege to give back to the scene that’s given me so much: amazing friendships, countless laughs, and unforgettable memories.
Treasurer - Sean Heffernan
Most people think that I fall off my Lambretta a lot… well … maybe just a bit….
When the club cried out for people to put their hand up for positions on the committee, I thought why not… time to give a little back to this great club, which has supplied too many great memories for me – all of the Australian Classic Scooter Mille events so far ( although completing more than just one is something I would love to remedy ), the East Coast Jamborees and the other events that the club provides support & insurance for.
Vice President – Natasha (Tash) Barker Diffey
Aussie born, with English heritage, I was introduced to the scootering world in 1992 when I was 21 years old after meeting Steve Diffey while holidaying in Bournemouth – he was then the Dorset Modrapheniacs #1. I ended up living in Poole for 4 years and thoroughly enjoying the UK /European scootering scene, then returned to Sydney’s northern beaches in 1996, dragging Steve with me – and boy, do we miss those rainy days and wet weather gear!
My first scooter was a Vespa Primavera which I bought from my sister (and yes, I still have it). I didn’t get my first Lammy, a LI125 S1, until the 2000’s, which Steve (now my loving husband) kindly restored for me. I have a couple of other projects in the wind, waiting for Steve’s help when he can find time. One is a Rome Olympics-themed Lammy as a tribute to my past life as an Olympian at the Sydney 2000 Games.
In 2024 I volunteered to join the committee to assist with the club’s insurance and any other needs, as my day job involves overseeing corporate insurance programs for large non-profits and leisure / entertainment sector. Then I stepped into the Vice role in 2025.
So far it’s been great working with the other committee members – we’re all passionate about supporting the classic Lambretta scene and have had some good laughs along the way.
Ordinary Member – Steve Buckland
English born, now Aussie, living in Sydney, my first scooter was a Vespa 50 Special with a cylinder kit in around 1992, I started going to a local scooter club in Epsom, Surrey, but later moved to Brighton and really got into the scene, lots of rides down to Brighton and loving the music and clothing that went with it!
My love for Lambretta’s was a lot later and after moving to Australia in 2013 with no scooters, I now have a 1967 125 Special and a 1974 SIL GP150/210.
I enjoy fixing my own scooters and am happy spending hours in the garage, even if those hours were only supposed to be a ‘quick job’!
Still enjoy a decent ale, riding scooters around the country on weekend rallies and getting out when I can.
I currently look after memberships for the Lambretta Club and help with the website.
Ordinary Member – Stephen Syms
Most folks call me Symsy. Looking forward to attending and creating more Lambretta events particularly in Northern NSW/SEQLD. I ride out on my scoots 2-3 times a week normally, the smiles are in the miles.
Lambrettas .. My first experience 1979, no licence, rode it for two weeks then cut it up with angle grinder and put the motor into a go kart! I dabbled in more Lammy hacking and Vespas throughout the mid to late 80s, drifting around with various crews from Kent UK (Gravesend Sentinels, Medway Aces, Heroes Medway Scooter Rats). Arrived in OZ 91 married/scooterless after being told to grow up. Divorced, bought my scooter again 9/9/99 it was an adulthood emergency. I never owned Lambretta prior to that with side panels, paint or that could be started without a bump. Cruised around on my TV JD Javelin dealer special interpretation ever since, in Sydney and Byron. I recently reconnected by chance with the scene 2018 when I bumped into this bloke “Rappers” Martin Rapley who invited me to the national in Byron…
Music has always been mixed with my scootering, loving the northern soul scene, ska and acid house/rave scootering scene. In recent years I made an acquisition a GP 200 and maybe there’s a S1 in my future, who knows.
Ordinary Member – Ziko Hart
Originally from Lancashire England arrived in Oz 1990, now living on the Sunshine Coast QLD and one of the founders of the Wombat Scooter Club Qld and organiser of the Winter Scooter Rally Qld always last weekend of July. Hopefully will organise a few Lambretta events in the coming years and meet up with like minded people who have a passion for Lambrettas and scooters in General. If I am not tinkering with scooters you will find me building and repairing Celtic Harps and drinking Guinness the symbol of the harp ,safe riding everyone Ziko.
Ordinary Member – Darryl Rush
Back in the 80s at only 13 years young, getting on the train from Boston and heading for Skegness with a great bunch of lads n girls…. all of us had tickets.!!! walking from the station down chip pan alley n now the group is getting bigger n louder. Seeing for the first time “Tangerine Dream”…
Great memories now too many years ago. First scooter was a thumper of an Li, lent it out to ?????? 1 weekend n never got it back. So decided to get a cutdown with the rare Halfords headlight n not a very comfy seat but held tight on USK 892.
Over the years attended many rallies with the thick yellow waterproofs, Millets tent n never got round to putting it up.
Now living in the Sunshine Coast, one of the founders with a cracking bunch lads when at Wiseman’s Ferry Jamboree an idea was sparked of a fun club with regular meet ups, ride outs n banter with typical sarcasm Wombats Scooter Club was formed. Older, grey n Kranky if not enough sleep.!
Wherever there’s a meet up get yourselves to it, only a little country.!!! ride n have a bloody good laugh with a unique bunch of members.
Still have the GP I bought way back in 2003 in Kent, brought it to OZ, sold it when we we went back to uk for a few years n then came back to Sydney. Offered the scooter t a price and snapped it back, blessed to have S Diffey put it meticulously back to as it should be, an absolute belter.
Iris, Florence Olive n Helen always supporting the scene n keeping me young whilst Mooching about on the GP.
