The committee has been reviewing the membership, tool libraries and how we utilise the various “Club Plates Schemes”. These are some of the key membership benefits that the club offers.
We therefore wanted to remind you about the significance of your membership in our club.
Firstly and primarily, these benefits are only accessible if you have paid your annual membership fee due on 1 July of each year, and you are a current financial member throughout the entire year.
Club Rego and Membership:
- The use of club plates in all States require you to be a paid and current member. Even one day out of membership deems your vehicle technically unregistered, uninsured and it should not be ridden. This is not a LCOA rule, it is a state government rule and it is the legal responsibility of the owner and rider of the vehicle to ensure it is adhered to.
- If you have a club plate and you have inadvertently overlooked your renewal and let your membership lapse, and/ or have chosen to leave the club, you are now required to register your vehicle with another club and /or take up full registration through your individual State road authority.
Expired memberships or members who have chosen to leave the club do not by default get to run their club registration for the remainder of the calendar or registration period. You are not registered!!
- We, as a recognised club, have also registered our nominees/signatories with the AIS national club administrators on their database that coordinate for all motor vehicle schemes in all States. Documents can only be signed for and on behalf of the club by these registered signatories. The authorities can ask for original documents and validate signatories.
- Please also note that as a member, the responsibility for the roadworthiness of the vehicle, remains the responsibility with the owner and rider, as does the adherence to the general licensing and road rules when riding. This is not a responsibility of the club. There is no exception. The club is not responsible for your riding, registration and/or behaviour when on club runs and events.
- Furthermore please understand the club does not carry any liability nor provide any coverage for the damage you may cause to your vehicle, yourself, another vehicle or third party in the event of accidents. Insurance is your responsibility and is not covered as part of personal, full vehicle registration, or use of the club plates schemes/special interest vehicles schemes to different levels. Please check you are covered.
Action For Members : We ask you all at this time to check that you have your club plate paperwork in order and ensure your membership status is ok. There are differences in each State’s schemes and documents required. We try to guide and can help with general enquiries but please check with your local State’s motor authority and registry. We can field general enquiries via your State Reps or club email.
Tool Libraries:
All tool libraries have been reviewed and are complete as of 28 Feb 2026, with the exception of WA (currently under review).
As a general principle, tool library loans to LCOA members should be for a period of no longer than two weeks/14 days.
Tool library administrators will try to respond to requests within 7 days and tell you when the next available tool loan slot might be, so you can plan sourcing parts, skills, etc.
Of course, you can request a longer period but if we can please try to work within these guidelines this will make sure tools are available to all our members. Please note, if you lose a tool or break it, you may be asked to pay for, or contribute to its replacement.
You will also be personally responsible for the tools even if you choose to engage a workshop/mechanic to do some work and they may wish to utilise a special tool, puller, etc to help you with your scooter. In general, professional mechanics have their own tools but we understand some may not have some of the specialised tools that we have in the library.
The tools are primarily for the use of our LCOA members, and should not be loaned to non-members. Having said that, we also understand we like to share knowledge and skills with personal friends outside the club, who may not yet be members , and that the ethos of the club is to promote the Lambretta marque and associated culture. We are all aligned with the philosophy of ‘helping scooter mates’. If you host a workshop day or perhaps by exception help a friend who is not a member, or even someone who is broken down, please ask them to join LCOA if you temporarily utilise these tools for their benefit and privilege.
